St. Petes Times Buzz Blog Mentions the Caucus
The Gay Vote
With an estimated one million (overwhelmingly Democratic) gay Florida voters, Rod Smith and Jim Davis can't afford to take the gay vote for granted. On Saturday, both Democratic gubernatorial candidates will speak at the Florida Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual; $ Transgender Democratic caucus in Tampa, along with state Democratic chairwoman Karen Thurman.
The group hasn't endorsed yet, but Davis could be well-positioned to win its backing (despite a Smith supporter distributing a memo on Davis' "bad" congressional voting record at a Dolphin Democrats gathering in Broward in October). Caucus president Michael Albetta is personally backing Davis, and the Tampa Congressman impressed a lot of people when he brought Reps. Barney Frank and civil right icon John Lewis by a caucus reception at the state Democratic conference in December.
Saturday's business meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the John F. Germany Public Library Auditorium in Tampa.
